Week 2

Hello! This is my review of week 2 of Communicate Electronically.

I should mention one thing I have come across from chatting to some of the girls in our class – it is best to write these blog postings in a Word Document before posting. It makes sense to be able to fine tune the postings before hitting Publish. I suppose it is similar to writing an email and adding the address last which leads to fewer mistakes.

So - on with the review of class for this week. I must admit to being late for this class. I am aware of how easy it is to miss important information since the course content has to be squished into a relatively short time period so I try to attend each and every class.
Drat for being late!

This week’s class was about blogs and blogging which is something that has eluded me in the past. I know enough to be able to ‘trawl’ through what I suppose are blog sites looking for tutorials. I am a very craft/art oriented person, whether it is sewing, painting, general crafts, other textiles – I just love it all!! I like to discover new and interesting ways of making things (pinterest is great!) Blogging seems to be the new way of sharing such ideas, and through the class I am discovering how narrow my focus has been. The fact is that the range of topics that blogs are focused on seems almost endless. It shows how truly varied our thoughts and interests are.

I found that Donna had sent us an invitation (by email to our gmail addresses) to contribute to the blog she had set up called “Communicating Electronically - S1, 2014". I created a blog persona named Electric Susannah and my blog which is called ‘fun fun fun certificate three!’

In f.f.f.c.t! I wrote and posted my first ever blog, titled Week 1. As with most things we do for the first time, I wasn’t really sure what the heck I was doing! That is the nice thing about our learning environment, you have a go and see what happens, the lecturers will soon say yes keep going or “What on earth are you doing Susannah?”

After posting our blog of Week 1 we had to respond to a topic; this week Donna asked us “What is a blog?” We each wrote about what we thought made a good or bad blog, and found two examples of blogs that we thought either fit into those parameters or a business or personal blog. I chose a blog I enjoy called art-in-tropical-australia which is written by my Aunty Jill. She is based in Far North Queensland and is a textile artist working predominantly with painting silk fabrics. The other blog I used as an example was a crafty one called hopeandglory which is a personal blog from the UK.
Each week a student will be called on to supply a question for the blog like Donna’s that the rest of the class is to respond to. I am considering many options which I hope will be appropriate.
That’s it for me this week!

Thank you
Regards
Susannah
